Classes A variety of classes on investing subjects are presented by the directors of the Rocky Mountain Chapter. Some are in a traditional classroom setting, some utilize new technology where you use your computer from the comfort of your home, and some are mixed. We are interested in presenting classes of interest to our members. If you have a class you would like to see offered but is not listed, please contact the chapter. A club can also request a class to be presented to the club, either at a club meeting, or at specified time, mutually convenient to the club members and the chapter.
Sponsored Events The Rocky Mountain Chapter offers sponsored events throughout the year. Events range from EduFests to individual speakers to combined sessions with AAII (American Association of Individual Investors). These events are publicized on our web site, by the email distribution list, and in the newsletter.
Volunteer Opportunity The Rocky Mountain Chapter is looking to expand the number of individuals on the Board of Directors. If you have in interest in expanding your investing knowledge and sharing your knowledge with others, you may be a candidate. Contact the Chapter President for more details.
Portfolio Reviews Have you read the “Portfolio Repair Workshop” column in Better Investing where a club submits their portfolio and receives an independent review in light of NAIC principles? Have you wished your own club’s portfolio could get such a useful evaluation? Sometimes a club has difficulty seeing the forest for the trees and a review by an experienced and knowledgeable third party can be of great help in seeing the portfolio in a new light and lead to a strengthening of the portfolio and improved investing success. Did you ever wish that such a review of your club’s portfolio could be combined with an educational visit to your club where your questions can be answered in person and your understanding of portfolio management deepened?
The Rocky Mountain Chapter offers portfolio reviews for the club portfolio as way for the club to have an outside opinion of the club holdings, based on Better Investing methodology. A director will review your portfolio and make a presentation to the club during a regular meeting. Most of the meeting time will be dedicated to the portfolio review.
This service consists of a review of the diversity, defensive and offensive health and the quality grade point average of your portfolio. Your club is provided a written evaluation of your portfolio which is presented at a club visit where the report is reviewed and questions answered.
The diversification review consists of both market capitalization and sector/industry analysis. This review identifies sectors where exposure is limited and recommendations will be made to even out the weighting.
The defensive segment identifies stocks starting to experience problems that you may consider selling before they cause too much damage to your portfolio. Sales, Pre Tax Profit (PTP) and Earnings per Share (EPS) growth rates are analyzed. The offensive alert identifies stocks that present too little return potential as possible candidates for replacement.
Your portfolio will be analyzed for quality, using Mark Robertson’s quality rating system. You will be given the tools to do your own quality reviews in the future. (One of the most important things a stock watcher can report on is the quality grade). To arrange a portfolio review for your club:
1. Contact the Rocky Mountain Chapter to request a review. The charge for this service is $5 per club member with a minimum charge of $50. 2. Update your SSG’s with current quarter’s earnings, sales data and judgments. 3. Electronically transmit your SSG’s to the committee chair at least one month in advance of the scheduled review. 4. Have a meeting room with screen or wall appropriate for projection available for the meeting. Two or more directors will review the evaluation report for you and your club members and field all questions.
